About Historic Elizabethan Gardens

Welcome to The Elizabethan Gardens, a living memorial to America's first colonists. The Elizabethan Gardens is a 10.5 acre public garden located in Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, site of the first English colony in America, and adjacent to Waterside Theater, home of The Lost Colony symphonic drama.

There's something here for everyone, as each season contributes to the beauty and tranquility of this unique garden. Horticulturalists and nature lovers will wonder at the myriad varieties of plants, wildflowers, shrubs and trees. History buffs will revel in our historic setting at the site of the New World's first English colony. Culture seekers will appreciate the period furniture, English portraits, and ancient statuary throughout the garden.

We are dedicated to preserving the beauty and tranquility of The Elizabethan Gardens as a tribute to the first English colonists in the new world at the site of the original settlement. We seek to create inspirational garden displays and provide educational opportunities that encourage an appreciation of the art of gardening. We are committed to sharing our unique history, continually improving The Gardens, enhancing the quality of the visitors' experience, and being good stewards of The Gardens.
